Regulatory Guide 146 – How do I get one of those

By: admin|

RG146 is an ASIC requirement which enables people to give personal advice which is in relation to Financial Planning only. Mortgage Brokers do not have to be RG146 compliant to do mortgage broking however if they want to give personal advice in the areas detailed below then they will need to do one or all of the courses depending on what advice they want to give. A lot of people will enquire about a course and say they want to be RG146 compliant, however there are many ways a student can be RG146 compliant. By completing any one of the following courses –

*  Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) FNS50804 and 3 x “Advice In” courses a student will be RG146 compliant as there is an ASIC unit contained in each of the courses, however if a student only does one of the courses you need to explain that they will only be RG146 compliant in the specific area of the course they have chosen. Therefore depending on what advice they want to give depends on what courses they should take. At AAMC we offer choice to our students by enabling them to what course they want to do depending on what advice they want to give. If someone wants to be a Financial Planner for example then we will recommend them completing the whole package (all 4 courses), however if someone wants to sell life insurance then they will need to complete the Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) & Advice in Life Insurance, however their dealer group may only require them to complete Advice in Life Insurance. We would normally ask our students to refer to their dealer group and confirm what their requirements are concerning the competency units they require.

 Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) FNS50804 – This qualification can also be referred to as DFS 1 – On completion of the course the student will be RG146 compliant, however the student can only give personal advice in the area of General Financial Planning as they will have only completed the following ASIC competency unit within the course – FNSASIC503ZB Provide advice in financial planning.

 Advice in Life Insurance – This qualification can also be referred to as DFS 2 – On completion of the course the student will be RG146 compliant, however the student can only give personal advice in the area of Life Insurance as they will have only completed the following ASIC competency unit within the course – FNSASIC503XB Provide Advice in Life Insurance.

 Advice in Derivative & Securities – This qualification can also be referred to as DFS 3 – On completion of the course the student will be RG146 compliant, however the student can only give personal advice in the areas of Derivatives & Securities as they will have only completed the following ASIC competency units within the course – FNSASIC503VB Advice in Derivatives and FNSASIC503WB Advice in Securities.

 Advice in Superannuation & Managed Investments – This qualification can also be referred to as DFS 4 – On completion of the course the student will be RG146 compliant, however the student can only give personal advice in the areas of Superannuation & Managed Investments as they will have only completed the following ASIC competency units within the course – FNSASIC503UB Provide Advice in Superannuation & FNSASIC503TB Provide Advice in Managed Investments.

 If a student completes all of the above courses or any combination then they will be RG146 compliant in that specific area.
